Observation 1: Conditions - Our Response & Life

Today I experienced something practically which I had heard about a lot of times in my life, and I am sure most of us would have too. The saying goes like “the extreme conditions you are exposed to brings the best out of you!”  Meaning the problematic conditions you get into in life, upgrades you to a better version by playing a positive role in your life. But what almost no one adds to this is the impact of “emotions” while you are dealing with these situations, and human beings have the maximum play of this “emotional factor.”

We are animals, so to keep the perspective comparable, I will talk about my experience observing another animal (nature). In my hostel, I found a “Bat,” a pup or an injured one, no idea, but it was having issues with flying. But as per my experience, I think it’s a baby bat learning to fly and use its echolocation ability. Many of the boarders were scared as this bat would come out every night and take short flights and hover around in the corridor and sometimes follow your footsteps. One night I found it getting into a drain hole in the corridor, and I immediately covered it with a small box; the next morning, I found the bat inside the box. Taking advantage of the bat sleeping, I moved it to an isolated place in the basement, hoping it to be safe till it flies off. In the same evening, I discovered it to have vanished from the box! Later found it slowly flying, crawling, and moving back towards where I had captured it. To my astonishment, the bat made it to the place in almost 48 hours, as it moved mainly during the night, what an achievement. And to add to my astonishment, it was now taking way longer flights, and currently, it’s gone, mostly mastered its abilities, I guess.

The learning which I want to highlight here is the role of strong emotion, which the bat might have used (some researchers have discovered this) to return back to its place, and not simply return but with an evolved version. Or can say when you go through an intense process, it automatically transforms you as per the requirement. Animals are great at doing their jobs because they lack the “negative emotions” that we human beings have mastered holding onto, and this also distracts us from our goals. So we can choose to sit down complaining about the negative things we are facing or use our emotional ability to fuel us, which I guess is the mantra that all successful people know how to use. Sometimes it’s essential to remind ourselves of all the reasons that made us chose the decisions which have made us be who we are today and work towards our dreams. Emotions have the ability to be our fuel, but if not handled carefully can crush us!
